Privacy Policy — LinguaCommunity browser extension

October 30, 2026

This policy explains what the LinguaCommunity browser extension ("the extension") accesses, where it sends it, and what it never does. The extension is published by the lingua.community team for use by teachers who already have a lingua.community account.

In short: the extension acts on your behalf as the teacher signed in to lingua.community. It sends data only to your own lingua.community account, it never asks for or stores any password, and it collects no analytics.

Who this applies to

The extension works only when you are signed in to lingua.community in the same browser. If you are not signed in, it does nothing with your data.

What the extension accesses

  • Your lingua.community session. The extension reads your lingua.community session token (the accessToken cookie), from lingua.community only, so it can act as you — to show your lessons, materials and messages, and to upload an imported course to your account. It refreshes that token when it expires. It does not read cookies from any other website.

  • Your own account data, for the quick actions. To show the badges in the popup, it reads your upcoming/live lessons and your count of unread messages from the lingua.community API, over your session. This is shown to you in the popup and is not sent anywhere else.

  • A course you choose to import. When you open a book on Edvibe or ProgressMe and start an import, the extension reads that course — its lessons, text, images and audio — over that page's own already-signed-in session, and downloads the course's media files (from the platforms' media hosts, e.g. cloudstori.com / docstorio.com). It reads a course only when you ask it to.

What it sends, and where

  • The parsed course content you import is uploaded only to your own lingua.community account, through the lingua.community API, so it becomes a material you own (hidden until you choose to publish it).

  • Nothing is sent to the extension's developers or to any third party. There are no analytics, trackers, or advertising SDKs in the extension.

What it never does

  • It never reads, requests, or stores any password — not your lingua.community password and not your Edvibe/ProgressMe password. It relies only on sessions you have already signed into in your own browser.

  • It never sells or shares your data, and never uses it for anything other than the features above.

  • Learner answers are stripped from imported course content before anything leaves the page, so students' answers and grades are not transmitted.

What it stores

  • The extension keeps the state of an in-progress import (which lessons are already done) in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so an import can resume if you close the popup or reload the page. This never leaves your device and is cleared when the import finishes or you dismiss it.

  • The extension keeps no other data on your device or on any server of its own.

Why each browser permission is needed

  • cookies — read your lingua.community session token (lingua.community only) to act as you.

  • storage — remember an in-progress import so it can resume.

  • activeTab / tabs — act on the course tab you are viewing, and open lingua.community pages (your imported material, or a quick-action link).

  • Host access to lingua.community and api.lingua.community (your account), edvibe.com and progressme.ru (the course you open), and the platforms' media hosts (to bring images and audio across).

Data retention

  • Imported course content lives in your lingua.community account, under your control, and is governed by the lingua.community Privacy Policy. You can edit or delete it there at any time.

  • The in-progress import state in your browser is temporary and is removed when the import completes or is dismissed, or when you remove the extension.

Children

The extension is a tool for teachers and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
